Membrane keyboards with embossed keys

Embossing of membrane keyboards

A targeted one embossing of the keys improves the appearance and offers tangible feedback. It makes operation easier, reduces input errors and optimizes the user experience.

From classic dome embossing to special terrace and frame embossing or symbol embossing - we offer a variety of options that can be perfectly combined. This means that every membrane keyboard is tailored exactly to your requirements and design.

metal snap domes

Metal snap disks for membrane keyboards

metal domes provide a distinctive tactile feel and reliable operation in membrane keyboards. When a key is pressed, the disk lowers and makes contact with the conductor track. The snap disks are available in various sizes and shapes.

The trigger force varies between 40 g and 750 g depending on the model. This allows the feedback to be adjusted precisely to the user's preferences. With a service life of up to 10 million actuations, these components are extremely durable.

We also offer dual-touch metal domes that can detect two levels of pressure. Light pressure activates the first circuit without tactile feedback. Stronger pressure closes the second circuit and provides familiar tactile feedback.

Illumination of membrane keyboards

LEDs as status indicator

LED status light in membrane keyboard

Membrane keyboards can easily be backlit by using an LED switching membrane or a switching membrane with integrated LEDs. Special adhesives and sealing materials ensure that the LEDs function reliably even in demanding environments with strong vibrations.

vanish effect

Membrane keyboard with disappearing effect

A highlight of the LGF technology is the disappearing effect. Key labels are invisible when the device is switched off and only appear when illuminated. This opens up new design possibilities and sets aesthetic accents.

Light Guide Film for backlighting

illuminated membrane keyboards with LGF

A particularly innovative and effective solution is the Light Guide Film (LGF) technology This method involves placing LEDs on the edges of an extremely thin, light-conducting foil. This is only 0,1 to 0,2 mm thick. The LGF technology ensures that the light is evenly distributed across the entire keyboard surface. This means that each key is clearly and homogeneously illuminated.
A key advantage is the ability to backlight each key in different colors – without the need for a high-frequency alternating voltage source. The flat design of the membrane keyboard is completely retained.

Duraswitch technology

Membrane keyboard with rotary encoder

Rotary encoders, also known as rotary encoders, offer precise control and are extremely robust. They convert precise rotary movements into digital signals. This ability makes them a valuable addition to membrane keyboards, for example for volume control.

RFID/NFC technology

Membrane keyboard with RFID

For access control systems and user identification systems, we equip membrane keyboards with advanced RFID and NFC technology The integrated chips are located inside the film. This protects them from environmental influences.

Capacitive membrane keyboards

Capacitive membrane keyboards with sensor surfaces

Membrane keyboards with capacitive sensors detect touch and convert it into electrical signals. A touch changes the electrical capacitance at the contact point. The sensors register this change and convert it into an input signal. This technology enables smooth and intuitive operation without the need for force. Since they do not require any mechanical parts, they are particularly durable and easy to clean. They are also resistant to dust and moisture, making them ideal for demanding applications.

Keyboard & touch panel

Membrane keyboard with touch display

The combination of keyboard and display technologies makes optimal use of the strengths of both systems. An additional keypad next to the Touch display significantly improves the user interface. It enables quick and easy access to frequently used commands or predefined parameters. The haptic feedback of the membrane keyboard significantly reduces user errors and increases operating safety. Integrated snap disks provide tactile feedback and an audible click when the keys are pressed.

For the Integration of touch screens could be shown various techniques available:

One method is to punch out the area for the display, while another is to embed a viewing window into the membrane keyboard. The specification of these windows can be customized for gloss, matt finish, anti-reflective coating, scratch resistance, UV resistance and color.

The film and display are combined using a highly transparent adhesive layer with over 99% light transmission. This bonding creates a uniform surface that is chemical-resistant and sealed against liquids and dust. This makes it ideal for use in food processing, laboratories and the medical field.

Shielding and seals for membrane keyboards

Shielding of membrane keyboards

ESD protection for membrane keyboards

ESD-shielded keyboards effectively protect against electrostatic discharges. These are caused by static charges in the environment or on the keyboard itself. Such discharges can damage or destroy sensitive electronic components. Various technologies are used to ensure effective ESD shielding:

  • Silver/carbon print: A uniform layer of silver or carbon covers the entire keyboard surface. This conductive coating safely dissipates static charges and protects electronics from damage.
  • Aluminum foil: An additional layer of aluminum foil serves as a barrier against electrostatic discharges.
  • ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) film: This transparent, conductive film offers excellent ESD shielding and can be used in the window area of the keyboard. ITO film combines high transparency with effective conductivity, making it ideal for applications where visibility and protection are important.

EMC protection for membrane keyboards

Membrane keyboards are often used in environments where many electronic devices are running simultaneously. Electromagnetic interference originates from sources such as wireless communication systems, electrical devices, or other electronic systems. EMC shielding ensures that Membrane keyboards function reliably and without problems.
There are several effective methods and materials to protect against electromagnetic interference:

  • Aluminum- or copper-coated polyester film: A common method is the use of aluminum- or copper-coated polyester film. This is laminated into the keyboard under the front foil and provides a reliable barrier against electromagnetic interference.
  • Conductive silver technology: A polyester film coated either fully or as a grid structure using a screen-printing process can also be integrated. This conductive coating enables direct contact with the circuit board or mechanical components.
  • Segmented EMC shielding: Membrane keyboards with displays often use segmented shielding. This method shields the keyboard and circuit boards separately, ensuring optimal protection for all components.

Seals for IP67 / IP68

Membrane keyboards offer robust protection against dust and water due to their construction. For requirements that require protection classes higher than IP65, seals in the membrane keyboard This can further increase water resistance and dust protection. Membrane keyboards with protection classes IP67 and IP68 are particularly suitable for hygienic environments. In these environments, regular and thorough cleaning is necessary.

Ideal solution for front mounting

Membrane keyboard on carrier plate

For reinforcement, the membrane keyboard can be tailor-made carrier plates Integrated press-in bolts simplify the subsequent assembly. The integration of a complete module, included Display and Circuit board, is possible. Depending on the installation situation, this can also be achieved with an integrated seal to further increase protection and functionality.
